"Current evidence suggests that there is a potential for smokers to cut back their health risks if electronic cigarettes are utilized in place of tobacco cigarettes and are thought-about a step toward ending all tobacco and nicotine use," said study researcher Thomas Eissenberg, co-director of the Center for the Study of Tobacco Merchandise at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration should have authority over all tobacco merchandise and Miracle Smoke e-cigarette, said Edelman, a professor of medicine and physiology and biophysics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
"It's imperative that the FDA finalize proposed e-cigarette regulations by the tip of 2014," he said. "The FDA needs to crack down on quit-smoking and alternative health claims that e-cigarette companies are creating," Edelman said.
